Education & Outreach
At the heart of the CALM Project (Catchment Action for Local Management) is the belief that lasting improvements in water quality can only be achieved when everyone understands the vital role they play in protecting our shared rivers, lakes and catchments.
While on-the-ground nature-based solutions, habitat restoration and innovative nutrient management are essential, real change also requires knowledge, engagement and collective action. That is why we have developed an extensive education, outreach and awareness programme as a core component of the project.

Who We Engage
Our programme is designed to reach and inspire a wide cross-section of the community.
Farmers and landowners
Practical workshops, farm demonstrations and advice on sustainable nutrient management, runoff reduction, and the benefits of nature-based solutions such as riparian buffers and habitat restoration.
Schoolchildren and young people
Interactive sessions, field trips, classroom resources and hands-on activities that help the next generation understand how healthy catchments support wildlife, clean water and vibrant communities.
Community groups and residents
Public events, guided walks, information materials and citizen science opportunities that encourage everyone to connect with their local river and take simple actions that make a difference.
What We Aim to Achieve
Through targeted outreach and education, CALM seeks to:
Raise awareness of the pressures facing our cross-border catchments, including the Quiggery, Finn, Glyde, Blackwater and others, and the practical solutions available.
Build understanding of how everyday land management decisions affect water quality, biodiversity and flood resilience.
Share knowledge about nature-based solutions and sustainable practices that deliver cleaner water alongside benefits for farming, wildlife and recreation.
Foster a sense of shared responsibility and pride in our local waterways, strengthening cross-border collaboration and community stewardship.
Leave a lasting legacy of increased awareness so that future generations continue to value and protect these precious resources.
