The Quiggery River and its tributaries sit in County Tyrone, forming part of the upper Foyle catchment. Rising near Fintona, the river runs about 9 kilometres before joining the Ballynahatty Water. It’s a small to medium spate river, 5 to 20 metres wide, meandering through pasture, wetland and farmland in rolling drumlin country.

The catchment supports a rich mix of habitats, from riparian zones to wet grasslands, and is a well-regarded angling water for wild brown trout and runs of spring salmon and sea trout, especially after spates. Its main tributary, the Seskinore, offers accessible, varied fishing through the season.

Agriculture, land drainage, forestry and diffuse pollution have raised nutrient and sediment levels here, affecting water quality and habitat. Though not a standalone Special Area of Conservation, the Quiggery lies within the Foyle’s protected hydrological network, which supports Atlantic salmon, otter and a range of water-dependent habitats.
