The Scotstown River has a few sources on the south facing slopes of Sliabh Beagh.  This wild area of blanket bog and oligotrophic lakes is a source of clean pure water that is valued as a source of drinking water for over 1,000 families and businesses in the Tydavnet Group water Scheme.  It is designated by the Environmental Protection Agency for the Rep. of Ireland as a “Blue Dot” catchment.  

ABC Council are facilitating an innovative scheme here to celebrate and involve local people in the value of a high quality streams and mobilise all stakeholders to work together to protect this treasure for their children and grandchildren.

ABC Council facilitates an active partnership here that includes Monaghan County Council and Tydavnet Group Water Scheme, local farmers and schools to establish a demonstration project for cross border action.
