The Finn Catchment lies in County Donegal, in the north-west of Ireland, covering around 494 square kilometres of upland blanket bog, heath and grassland. It’s a predominantly rural, scenic landscape, with the River Finn carving deep gorges and waterfalls as it flows through.

The Finn is renowned for angling, prized for its salmon and trout. Almost the entire river and its tributaries are designated a Special Area of Conservation, a Natura 2000 site whose protected features include oligotrophic waters, Northern Atlantic wet heaths, blanket bogs, transition mires, Atlantic salmon and otter. Like many catchments, it has felt the pressures of agriculture, forestry, development and industry, which affect water quality and habitat.
